St. Michaels Association for Special Education

SMASE located on a 20-acre campus in Saint Michaels, AZ is not for profit entity in operation since 1970 that serves moderate to severely disabled children and adults from throughout the Navajo Nation.  For more than 40 years now SMASE provides educational services for 43 school aged individuals, day program services for adults that are outside the commuting distance, therapy services, life skills, daily living skills, nursing services and infant services in the home setting, various activites such as Special Olympics, skiing, swimming, flying colors art program, and 4-H program.  SMASE is a not for profit school as well as a state certified private school.

 

Saint Michaels also provides an adult education program for students over 21. Many of our adult program students are graduates from the school. They are given the option to remain in the school or go home to their families. If they stay, they become part of the group home and continue to be active in school and learning. Some choose to be part of the group home and help out in that atmosphere rather than returning to classes.
