Nithya Siva has been a speech-language pathologist (SLP) since 1995 working in a variety of settings including medical (acute care, inpatient rehab, skilled nursing and outpatient) as well as public schools (preschool through post secondary vocational training) and private practice in both California and Washington state. She has been ASHA certified since 1996 and is WA state licensed. Nithya has also worked at the University of Washington as a clinical instructor, both supervising graduate SLP students and developing curriculum for SLP students interested in working in public schools in Washington State. She has lectured on a variety of topics including cultural considerations in provision of SLP services, TBI and adolescents, cognitive remediation in acute care and inpatient rehabilitation settings, visual-perceptual screening, and inclusive models of SLP intervention. She was a lecturer at Chapman University instructing new special education teachers on how to work with students with communication disabilities. Given that context is a critical factor in the generalizing of communication and cognitive skills to work and home, treatment in those environments (versus a clinic) can be more effective. She has lived in south Snohomish County for the past 11 years.
