 Introduction to NY State OPWDD:

The New York’s developmental service system is one of the largest in the country. It has thirteen Developmental Disability Service Offices in NY State. In 2004 OPWDD worked with over 135,000 clients and continues to expand each year. Some of these disabilities may include autism, epilepsy, cerebral palsy, and other neurological impairments. . OPWDD believes in giving people with developmental disabilities as much independence and chance to thrive as possible.  


 

Autism? Cerebral Palsy? Epilepsy?

If you are concerned about your child having a developmental disability or delay then this information is for you. You know your child and their behaviors better than anyone else. If you are concerned about your child and they are under the age of 3 you can contact the early intervention evaluation center (IBR). The IBR provides developmental tests in various subjects to help understand what your child is going through and help develop a plan to address his or her needs.

 Eligibility

To be eligible for services a person must have:

  1. Documentation of the person's developmental disability before age 22.
  2. Documentation of intellectual functioning  and IQ scores
  3. A recent medical report

Who do I call to determine if my child is Eligible?

OPWDD has thirteen offices located throughout NY state. Each office gives services to a specific county or area. To locate the office in your county please visit the OPWDD service officessite.
