Autism? Aspergers? Developmental Delays?
If you are concerned that your child may have Autism, a developmental disability or developmental delays...this information is for you. As the parent You know your child better than anyone else! I am glad you are taking the first steps in gathering information. The first three years are crucial in your child's life. If you, a family member, caregiver, or professional have any concerns about your child’s development, it is always best to identify the concern as soon as possible. It is better to find out you have nothing to worry about, then to start recieving treatment later than you could have.
If your infant or toddler has a developmental delay or disability, or are at risk of having a developmental delay or disabilities you may qualify for developmental monitoring or early intervention services through California DDS.
To be eligible for services a person must:
1. Receive a diagnosis of a developmental disability prior to the age of 18
2. Be expected to continue indefinitely and present a substantial disability
Infants and toddlers (age 0 to 36 months) who are "at risk" of having a developmental disability or who have a developmental delay may also qualify for DD services.
You can further research the eligibility of infants and toddlers by reviewing Section 95014 of the California Government Code. In addition "at risk" individulas may be eligible for genetic diagnosis, counseling and other prevention services.
